Stately with angular but soft features, Emmaline is really quite pretty, though perhaps not the most gorgeous female in Hogwarts. The full-bodied blond hair that falls just past her shoulders is rarely loose, usually swept up immaculately into a tight bun. She carries herself with rigid grace, always keeping her back strength and chin up, as if to elongate her 5’5” frame. Her perfect posture, elegantly statuesque features, and relatively tall height give her a somewhat imposing and aristocratic presence. She would be more attractive if she did not seem so unapproachable, and she is most appealing when riled up or speaking about something she is truly passionate about, as her emerald green eyes (which always hold obvious discernment and intelligence) come alight and sparkle with intimate fire.
PERSONALITY[/u]
Best trait: Intellect
Worst trait or flaw: Elitist
Stately and intelligent, Emmeline carries herself with an air of dignified grace and elegance. Most refer to her by her full name and occasionally as Em, and very few are given the right to refer to her as Emmy. Though she is a humanitarian that believes strongly in blood equality and being judged by one’s merits, she is also hesitant to speak out publicly against Voldemort’s rise. This is due to her belief that it is far more prudent to attack an enemy with well devised plots and intellectual cunning. She feels that drawing unnecessary controversy will do more harm than good, and the most successful plans are those that require a greater intellectual context. Due to her affluent upbringing, she may sometimes come across as an elitist and look down upon those whom she perceives to lack sophistication and class. The Vance family is a long line of Ravenclaws, which leads Emmeline to believe that everyone in her house is of clerisy. In fact, she often stereotypes the Hogwarts houses and has an irrational distaste for all Slytherins, assuming that, in order to qualify for membership in that house, one must be a heavily bigoted Death Eater.
When speaking with those she does not know well, Emmeline often comes across as detached or aloof. However, those closest to her know her to be quick-wittedly charming, with a sarcastic and dry sense of humor. They find her to be a sophisticated yet passionate debater, steadfastly defending her beliefs with sedulously flawless arguments. Though not unfriendly, she does not take to people quickly. Emmeline is bold, intense, and often haughty, and her self-confident perceptiveness makes her rather intimidating to most people. Her svelte and discerning personality can make her difficult to get close to, but when befriended, she becomes a loyal and trustworthy companion. Fellow Ravenclaws are most likely to be shown the hidden girl beneath her supercilious outer layer, and she is a dynamic and sympathetic friend, who will defend her principles and those who share them with unwavering devotion. Emmeline prides herself on being one of the top students at Hogwarts, having an innate knack for charms and a profound fascination with ancient runes. Aside from her required core subjects, she also takes Arithmancy and Ancient Runes.
She is a very prideful person and willingly will flaunt her superior intelligence at any opportunity. In truth, she does this in order to gain the praise and attention of others. She thrives on the idea that others look up to and respect her, and she perceives tangible success as the key to such reverence. While her tendency to strut around with the pride of a peacock is certainly do in part to her amour-propre, it also stems from her desire to validate herself in the eyes of her peers, her superiors, and all others.
HISTORY[/u]
Date of Birth: October 26th
Place of Birth: Adderbury in Oxfordshire, England
Father's Name: Emmet Vance
Mother's Name: Evangeline [Parish] Vance
Siblings' Name(s): Everett Vance [Brother, Ravenclaw 4th year]
Pet: Paramount (Male Snowy Owl)
Emmeline comes from a long and distinguished line of Ravenclaws; every Vance has been in that house since the initial founding of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Her ancestor, Esmond Vance, was a member of the first class of Hogwarts students, and he eventually married a beautiful young french woman from Beauxbatons Academy of Magic named Esmeraude Moreau. Every one of their descendants has attending the Hogwarts as a Ravenclaw. Prior to attending Hogwarts, every Vance attends charms school, including Emmeline and her brother Everett, to ensure perfect mastery of the magical arts. She takes great pride in this fact, coupled with her family’s wealth and high class.
Her father, Emmet Vance, has a high-paying, influential job at the Ministry of Magic. Specifically, he works for the Department of International Magical Cooperation, heading the International Magical Office of Law. Her mother, Evangeline, plays the role of his perfect high-class wife with exquisite nonpareil, though she is just as clever and sharp-witted as any working woman. Initially she worked as a Arithmancer for the ministry, but she retired upon having children. Now she only does the occasional freelance work for the ministry.
Three years her elder, Emmet met Emmeline's mother the night she was sorted into Ravenclaw. They began dating when she was a fourth year and he a seventh, and their engagement became official the day after Evangeline graduated from Hogwarts. They waited two years to wed, to ensure that both were independent and stable enough to enter into marriage, and they did not have Emmeline until Evangeline was 22 out of propriety. It would have been inappropriate to bear children to early on in the marriage.
The Vances are the epitome of spotless, well-behaved aristocracy. Though they do not share in their support of Voldemort’s pureblood ideals, Emmeline’s family is well acquainted with many other important and distinguished wizarding families, and they are often seen socializing with such families as the Blacks and the Malfoys. Her family shares the same haughty nature and superiority, however they feel superior to anyone less accomplished or influential, regardless of lineage. The Vances enjoy the sophistication that socializing with these other wizarding families offers them, but they are careful to avoid any meetings with relevance to the Dark Lord.
Emmeline and her immediate family live on a large and recherché estate, hidden from muggle eyes, in Adderbury (a small countryside area in Oxfordshire, England). There are various House Elves under their employ, and Emmeline and Everett were cared for in their youth by one named Poxy. Poxy still has a soft spot for the children, particularly Emmeline. Emmeline has had her owl Paramount for many years, and she feels that his name suits him perfectly. He is a gorgeous creature and an exquisitely trained animal, unparalleled by any other, and he also inspires her to reach likewise perfection. Having him around reminds Emmeline that she should continuously strive for paramount success.

Year in School: 5th
House: Ravenclaw
Wizarding Blood Type: Pureblood
Affiliation in the War: Order of the Phoenix
Wand Type: 12 in, Ivy, Chimera Scale
Emmeline’s wand is one foot exactly, which fits her precise nature and desire for orderliness. It is comprised of Ivy wood, the type of wood that coincides with the Celtic calendar for the dates September 30 - October 27. Her birthday falls within this timeframe, on October 26th. The core is Chimera Scale, which is none to be extremely rare and incredibly powerful. The material compliments perfectly her singular character, which sets her apart from the common crowd, as well as her incredible talent with magic and potential to be a powerful witch.
Boggart: A Very Deep Well
Patronus: Peacock
Favorite color: Emerald Green
Favorite Animal: Birds- specifically Ravens, Owls, and Peacocks.
Were she to face a Boggart, it would present itself to Emmeline as a very deep well. This is due to a disturbing experience in her childhood, which is also her worst memory and what a Dementor would conjure for her. As a young girl, Emmeline fell into an old well on her family’s estate in Adderbury. Unable to climb free of the stone entrapment, she was stuck there for the entire night as her family searched the grounds for her to no avail. She screamed and cried out, but none could hear her from deep within her confines below ground. The walls of the well were too slippery to get a good grasp, and even if they had not been, she was not nearly strong enough to pull herself out. A house elf finally found her the next morning nearly drowned. Ever since that traumatizing experience, she has been profoundly afraid of deep water, as well as being somewhat claustrophobic.
Her Patronus would be a peacock, which is quite fitting due to her proud and elegant personality. Her favorite color is a royal emerald green. Also, her favorite animals are birds- specifically Ravens, Owls, and Peacocks. The memory that would be used to summon her Patronus is the day she brought home her first perfect grade. The approval and praise of her parents is addictive, and she still strives for it to this day.
Mirror of Erised: Some representation of omniscience, high authority, or unprecedented success
If Emmeline ever perchance gazed into the Mirror of Erised, she would likely view herself with some representation of omniscience or unprecedented success. She holds extremely lofty aspirations, and she desires nothing more than to rise above others. Just as her fondest memory is of the high praise of her parents, reaching paramountcy would render her truly euphoric.

"Emmeline breathed in the midday air, filling her lungs with its warm, sweet scent. It was a wonderful day to be outside and about, if not a bit too muggy for her liking. Still, despite the thick humidity of the day, the grounds were just too inviting to deny the call- after all, it would soon be too cold to enjoy the greenery, so it was best to take advantage of it while she had the chance. She had even momentarily considered letting her golden locks down in order to enjoy the breeze, to allow it to flow through her hair and kick the strands into her face so that they could tickle her nose, but she thought better of it. In such intense sunlight, it would far more practical to keep her hair swept up and off her neck, lest her sweat render it unruly. The strength of the antemeridian sun had already rendered her cheeks flush and her breath short, escaping her lips in soft little pants. The rays beat down on the Earth in a heavenly glow, the grass crunching pleasantly beneath her small feet as she walked the grounds in search of the perfect area to perch herself with a few good books. Emmeline had woken early in order to have some extra time for this; she was doing some research for a particularly interesting Ancient Runes assignment that was due at the end of the month. After finishing her Charms paper, along with half of her Arithmancy homework, she decided to take a break in order to read up on her favorite subject. Time did seem to fly whenever she immersed herself in her studies. She could not help it, really; it was all just too fascinating and the swell of accomplishment too addictive, like a drug or an adrenaline rush. Once she inspired impressed or even satisfied expression on someone's face, she had to do so again, at the earliest possible opportunity.
But today was not about that; it was a rare occassion in which she just wanted to lie down and be lazy, to read something that touched her as well as taught her. It was a time to revel in the perfume of flowers and soak in the heat of the world, if only she could find the perfect patch of grass. She had already vetoed lounging out by the lake, too many silly younger girls giggling. That was far annoying a buzz to put up with on this heavenly day, though she had been briefly tempted to intervene on the part of some poor Hufflepuff there. The poor girl was being sweet talked by some silver-tongued Slytherin looking for a quick shag, Emmeline was sure.
As she meandered across the courtyard, the blond gave a curt nod to a classmate heading in the opposite direction. He was Ravenclaw sixth year, and they often sat studying in the common room together sharing companionable silence. The boy was heading back to the castle hand-in-hand with a girl from her Arithmancy class, and Emmeline noted vaguely to herself that this must have been the reason he stayed up finishing his charms work the night before. As she continued her journey, others watched her with vague interest, momentarily drawn to her statuesque manner but otherwise disinterested. She could feel their gazes slipping over her form and taking it in. A distinct squirming was felt deep inside the blond, but she would not allow her posture to waver in the slightest. Instead, her form remained proper, regal even, scanning the world around her and all of its inhabitants. Vaguely, in the back of her mind, she was aware of how unapproachable she must have seemed, but there was nothing to be done about that. She had always been a bit standoffish, so she was told, but really she just knew herself well and would present nothing less. Anyway, proper etiquette demanded a certain distancing of one's self, a sense of composure and refinement.
Despite the many people mulling around, none gave invitation to her company. Her friends were few, a selective and elite group, and as much as it pained her to do so, she wondered fleetingly if perhaps it was necessary for her to lower her standards to those of a bit more realistic level. That is, perhaps have just enough friends so she would not have to sit alone in a crowded courtyard. She could make some new ones today, she supposed. Instead she settled herself on a sunny patch of grass she happened upon at just that moment, finally ready to get to work. Another day, then. Just as she finished settling down, a Gryffindor girl happened by, and the two women shared a polite smile. Perhaps Emmeline would speak to her later. On that final thought, she immersed herself in the intimate knowledge of ancient runes."
