and behind closed eyes i cannot make them go away.
Alastrina Ophelia Stone was born in a ditch. Not that she had any choice but to be born along the side of a beat-up old pathway in between Hogsmeade and the country, and not that it was her parents choice either. Though, they didn't exactly do anything to prevent it. In other words, for as long back as they care to remember, the Stones have been living, breathing, and multiplying with the traveling Cirque de Freya. Alastrina was simply the latest addition to the long list of stage crew managers, costume designers, lighting specialists, and runners. Alastrina was only just another child born into the circus, and ever since she was old enough to think straight, she wanted to run away to the real world.
She grew up quickly, in the way that meant that Acturus King put her to work as soon as possible. With two parents in the stage crew business, Alastrina was destined to their fate. She became known as "hey kid". Hey Kid, run and get me some water for these elephants... Hey Kid, get me a tea, and stat. She did all sorts of things, and ran between costume designers and performers, between the animals and their trainers, and between all sorts of angry customers and the infamous ring leader. Her eyes, when not set to her newest task, drifted off to watch the tight rope walkers, the mimes, and the beautiful dancers and performers, but a ten year old has little to bring to the table except fast legs and unending energy.
You could say that the circus became a part of her, like any back yard playhouse became a part of any child. She had learned to expect the unexpected, and to keep her eyes peeled for anything new. Her curiosity of things that had absolutely everything to do with what wasn't running on the stage crew, was always brimming. Her childish nature, though suppressed during work, shone through in just about every move and every thought that came out of Alastrina. She was uncontrollable, always dirty, and usually doing something she shouldn't. But she couldn't help it, she wanted more out of life everyday. One day she'd be training to be a mime, the next she'd be falling off the hippogriffs. Then she'd be begging the tight rope walkers to take her for a trip, but it was all in vain. Hey Kid, just go..play in the mud or something.. And that's often what she ended up doing.
But everything changed the season they stopped traveling and settled down just outside of Hogsmeade. Her parents were happy to live once more among other wizards, but even they couldn't know Alastrina's utter joy at the situation. She was finally brought to a world that was completely new, unconquered, ready for the taking. Never mind the worlds impending doom, that meant nothing to Alastrina. No, now was her chance to make something of herself, something that wasn't already planned out. Her eyes now lingered on the passing crest of Hogwarts, on the robes of each visitor. Her heart set its goals upon the castle's highest tower, and Alastrina was going to run faster than she ever had before.

ROLEPLAY SAMPLE
The day had been a long one. Times were strange at Hogwarts school, and many were feeling the tension. Severus was counted among the many, just another student that's taken a blow from the outside world. Things were heating up, and Severus was burning as he collapsed in the Slytherin Common room. His legs were sore from a day of running around to classes and away from James Potter and crew. His hands were shaking from taking notes and slowly falling from sanity. The chair just before the fire was comfortable, but that fire crackled and sounded like laughter, like even the castle was laughing at the slender frame of Severus as he ran from bullies and hid behind his cauldron. Severus stood up from the chair and walked away from the fire, sick of dealing with the things that bugged him. He disappeared into the boys dormitory and took a seat on his bed. It's frame creaked under the added weight, but the room was otherwise silent. Severus combed his fingers through his black hair, and let it linger across his eyes for a moment, thinking all the while about the day that had just nearly ended.
Long was an underestimated word. Severus could barely remember this morning, so much had happened to him. He passed Lily in the corridors and she looked away from him. His eyes forever saw her face on the back of others, like the image was burned into his brain. People pushed him, or ignored him, while James called out the familiar nickname whenever the chance arose. The castle no longer seemed to offer much solace to Severus, and only a few things ever did anymore. His potions were excelling rapidly, but that passion wasn't truly in his heart. It was like second nature now, nothing to make him happy, just a thing to do, a distraction. He sunk into his bed, letting the black sheets encase him in their cool sanctuary. Not many Slytherins cared to bother him, and the dormitory was usually pretty safe, the only place left it seemed to him at that moment. He let his eyes close, feeling the lids relax over his eyes in a long awaited slumber, but he wouldn't be getting much sleep.
Lily clambered into bed with him, in his mind, and she haunted the darkness that came with closed eyes and sleepiness. Severus blinked awake and kept his eyes pried open by the fear. He needed something that would help him let her go, at least for a few hours, so he could sleep. It was always nice when you didn't remember your dreams, when you could fall into a state of nothingness for hours and awake refreshed, like it was really a new day. Severus hadn't gotten that kind of relaxation for so long now. His nights were plagued with nightmares of Lily and James, and that frightfully horrid word plastered all over the castle walls. No matter how long the day, how busy his classes, or how much he tried to forgive himself, insomnia was kicking in. The bed was as hard as a rock and it's coverings seemed deathly cold no matter how much Severus tried to wrap himself in them. He laid there in full school uniform, and kicked his shoes off the end of the bed, letting his feet stretch and moan. Even though he wasn't standing anymore, they still ached. A physical reminder of the problems within.
His wand poked out of his pocket, and instinctively Severus grasped hold of it. Ten and a half inches of birch wood was smooth against his fingers. It twirled and slipped from finger to finger and he mindlessly pointed it at the ceiling of his dorm, mumbling expecto patronum under his breath. His patronous never was quite fully developed in defense against the dark arts, but he was getting the hang of it. Silvery wisps emanated from the tip of his wand, floated towards the sky, and disappeared from view. What a relief to know that no dementors would be lurking around for his soul, though some days he felt they deserved it more than he did. Thoughts of Lily, though pushing him farther from sleep, aided his magical boredom and it wasn't long until his silvery wisps were taking on shape. A four legged, medium sized animal was forming, but it's identity still much of a mystery, and Severus just stared on through at the stone above his head. The bed warmed up ever so slightly, and at the end of this long day, Severus was thinking that maybe life wasn't so bad.
