1953-1961
His final year at Hogwarts complete, Lucas Bennis, only child of the Dutch Ambassador to the Ministry of Magic, Jacob Bennis, and his socialite with Elizabeth, was offered the position of Undersecretary to the Minister of International Trade at the Raad van Magie in Den Hague, Netherlands. The move was not easy; although he had spent many summers with his grandparents in Rotterdam, he considered England home. However, Jacob Bennis intended for his son to replace him, and in order for that to be possible, Lucas needed to start at the Raad.

Not long after beginning the new job, Lucas met Cornelia De Witt, a young witch working for a large import company, who frequently was thrown into contact with Lucas. At first, she had no interest in the strange Englishman at the Raad, but eventually she agreed to a date. The date turned into a short courtship and they married in a quiet ceremony with only Lucas' father present (Cornelia had recently lost her father, and her mother had died when she was a child. Lucas' mother disapproved of the union, because of Cornelia's lower class.

Lucas continued to move up in the Raad and Cornelia was able to quit her job and open a small apothecary out of their house. A little over a year after their marriage, Cornelia gave birth to their first child Sebastiaan. Three years later, Marius was born. At this point, Lucas was working as a high ranking official in the Department of International Relations, and Cornelia had put her work on the backburner to take care of her two children.

1961-1965
Chantal was born on July 13, 1961. From the moment she was brought home from the hospital, she was doted upon. Her mother had desperately wanted a daughter and her brothers both found babies fascinating. The birth of her first grand-daughter brought Elizabeth around in a way that the boys had not, and although things with her daughter-in-law remained frosty, her visits became much more frequent. As such, Chantal was nearly never left alone. She grew up pampered, but was always a sweet child.

Lucas was busy with work, but whenever he was able to make time, the family would take weekend trips to a small seaside town, not far outside of Den Hague. Although she remembers little of her early years in the Netherlands, they were nothing like her later impressions of the country.

Over the previous twelve years, Lucas had made a name for himself at the Raad, moving up quickly in the ranks, and catching the attention of the higher-ups. At the same time, Elizabeth had spent twelve long years separated from her son and grandchildren, and had been pressuring her husband for years to bring him home. Jacob decided that the time was finally right, and Lucas was transferred back to England to work under his father.
