ROLEPLAY SAMPLE
There was a certain level a panic rising in her that she'd not admit to later on in life. Olivia felt too
restless to sit idly by and listen to Kavic Elliot make small talk. Even if everyone thought she was ruining
her life, she begged to differ. It was her life to ruin anyway. That was selfish, yes. Olivia Lupin couldn't
think straight, see straight, process clearly. She continually offered Kavic that cold stare until his question
phased her properly. She blinked twice and then nodded her chin toward the property sprawled out
before them. "They went riding. You already know that though." She sighed. She stared down at the
snow around her and faked a shiver. Her eyes flickered slightly with a perfectly organized idea. She knew
Kav wouldn't noticed, or hoped he wouldn't. She stood still for a moment, keeping it casual and claiming
that silence as a manipulation.
"Well, no use standing out here freezing to death. I'm going to head in and take a hot shower. Don't
worry, no need to baby-sit me 24/7. Feel free to go get that drink you're craving because I'm bound to
be a while." Liv even put on one of her charming smiles even if it was layered over a sheer bitterness she
couldn't erase from her expression. Kyndrick would have been ashamed of her daughter. This was
downright cruel. Before he had a chance to argue, talk back, say it wasn't necessary to be a bratty and
angst ridden teenage girl, she was gone, headed through the door, down the hall, up the staircase, and
into the room she'd been sharing with Halyn. Inside, they shared a bathroom. Livvia made the usual
sounds as if she were bustling around inside. She locked the door to the bedroom behind her and then
locked the bathroom door as well. She turned the shower on and then she hoisted herself up to the
small window that was hardly big enough for a normal person to fit through. Livvia was becoming
steadily anorexic because of her problems and her depression so, it wasn't a problem for her. She would
have faced the obvious issue that she was on the 2nd floor but then saw a tree branch just far enough in
her reach. Livvia could have giggled like a child. It was just like a movie for heaven's sake! It could have
been a bad joke, a story written on one of those stories people read on the internet. Liv made her way to
the branch, glanced around below her to make sure Kav wasn't still outside and Kora and Halyn weren't
back from their ride early. Livvia grasped her wand in her hand and she made her mad dash run for the
line just outside the property. Once she hit it, she apparated to Diagon Alley.
The streets weren't as busy as she was used to. It was storming out now and Livvia did look quite out of
place. She stumbled when she started to walk. She stared into the faces of those passing by and laughed
to herself, they were like ghosts of real people. They were phantoms in her nightmarish life. Liv made her
way toward Knockturn Alley. Surely, no one in Diagon would sell on the streets to a student. No one
cared if Liv was 17, her addictions were still frowned upon. She was stepping over cobble-stoned streets
in the raging snow storm, her hair a mess of wisps and tangles. She cursed herself for leaving it down
that day and then grinned an expression that was made up entirely of madness. Bellatrix Lestrange
herself would have offered applause to the Olivia Lupin who walked those streets that day. Several
strangers offered her glances that said they knew she was mad as all hell. That was saying a lot in a place
like that. Honestly, Livvia was hardly seeing things in a normal light. As far as she was concerned,
everything was off color, out of focus. She was in something that was completely unreal to her. Hell, she
could have been in her bed at Koran's asleep for all she knew. She craved what she knew she'd find here
so deeply that she wasn't even in touch with life anymore.
She came to a man in a trench coat in a small alley branching off by the side of a store. He sat between
two trash cans and his hands were thrust into his pockets in a manner that spoke to Liv. It cried
out, "Welcome home, we've got just what you need!" So, naturally, she moved toward him and beckoned
with her hand. Olivia was as lovely as her mother so, under all that madness, she was still persuading as
ever. The transaction was so fast that even those on the street looking in wouldn't have noticed. Livvia
traded a few galleons for several tiny packets of different things. There were mostly pills and a few of her
signature "fairy dust" as Halyn had caught her with the night of Alicia's party. Liv leaned down and kissed
the grungy old man on the cheek before wandering back off toward Diagon. She didn't have much time.
She'd already killed at least half and hour doing this and Kavic wouldn't believe she took anything longer
than an hour in the shower. The last thing she needed was to be found out. Livvia apparated back to the
property and hoisted herself up the tree branches once more. It was a bit of a squeeze getting back
through the window again, but Liv managed. She had something to really look forward on the other side
of the window. Once she found herself in the bathroom once more, she started to sort her things out on
the counter. She leaned next to the door between the bathroom and bedroom and listened to make sure
no one was in the next room. She opened the door and stepped into the bedroom where she kicked her
boots off and threw her scarf to the floor. She pulled the knit sweater over her head to reveal a pale
lavender tank top underneath. She wore her tank top and jeans now. The house was only slightly chilly
from the window being open so, this wasn't as problematic as it could have been. Liv leaned forward to
stuff her sweater and scarf into her suitcase when she spotted the tiny zippered compartment inside.
She'd forgotten about it. It was for storing medicines or beauty products or whatever. How had no one
checked this before Liv's departure to Haven? She undid the zipper with shaky hands and surely enough,
more pills were inside. Liv could have jumped up and down with excitement if she wasn't so determined
to make this a faster process. She snatched up the tiny bundle of pills and rushed to the bathroom again.
She stared at herself a moment in the mirror. The reflection was somewhere between pathetic and
horrifying. Liv was shaking all over, desperate for the pills. The shower was still running and the mirror
was mostly fogged up. Liv took a handful of the pills and stuffed them into her mouth. She struggled to
swallow and took a gulp of water from the sink. She started taking as many of the pills as she could see.
She started to sway on her feet, her head was in a whole different place. She shook a bit harder, not
realizing what she was doing anymore. She snorted up anything she could, she swallowed any pills. She
took another long gulp of water and then she started to fall backward. Not thinking of anything, she
grabbed at whatever was closest to her. She ended up throwing book at the mirror, shattering it. Why
there was a book in the bathroom, Liv would have normally asked. Now though? No, now Olivia Lupin
was passed out on the bathroom floor, her body convulsing. She stared at the ceiling a mere moment
before her eyes shut tight.
"How could you do this?" Kyndrick asked her daughter. They were on a field in a place that Olivia could
vaguely remember from her childhood but couldn't quite name.
"I couldn't think." Livvia murmured. Her head was in her mother's lap where Kyndrick stroked Olivia's
hair gently, as if Liv were still a child.
"No one can take that away from you Olivia. You can always make your own choices." Kyndrick
murmured, looking away from her daughter. They both wore sun dresses as the summer air surrounded
them. There were wildflowers, Kyndrick had them in her hair, Livvia had them around her wrist in a chain
of bracelet.
"I know. I wanted to be like you. At the same time, I knew I was disappointing you. I just wanted that
freedom too. I didn't want to have to think anymore. I just wanted fade away into the comfort of
nothingness." Olivia took a long breath, taking in the scent of wildflowers, lavender, and smoke in the
distance.
"You won't ever disappoint me. I will love you no matter how many stupid mistakes you make. But
please Olivia, this is your life we're talking about. I died for you. Please let your life move on. There are
beautiful things ahead of you. You might not believe me now, but you'll see." Kyndrick whispered to
her, like it was a secret.
"Can I just stay here with you? I've missed you. I've missed your voice, your smell. I've missed these
places you take me. I've missed our life as a family. Dad's not the same without you." Olivia's tone was
as pleading as ever.
"How would you know? You were too young to remember." Kyndrick was almost teasing, as if her death
were something she could joke about.
"What about Kavic? He drinks and he's depressed. He needs you too." Liv asked, trying to come up with
any excuse. It was quite amusing how Livvia went for her mum's weaknesses, men.
"Oh, stop that. You know that's not how all this works. You're going to have to go back soon. If you
don't, you'll die." Kyndrick's gaze had turned worried.
"I'll go back." Olivia murmured. "But just give me this. Please. Just give me now so I can remember you.
It hurts to know I'll have to leave you behind." Olivia was crying. Not that sobbing, overly dramatic
crying that she was known for. No, this was something completely and utterly beautiful. This was the
Livvia her friends adored. This was the Olivia Lupin with one tear streaming down her cheek as she stared
at her mother's face one last time. She took in those beautiful, wonderful smells of a place she couldn't
name. She listened to the fresh sound of a French and British mixed accent. She stared into her mother's
eyes and saw herself. People said they looked so alike because they did. They could have been identical.
Liv stared into her mother's perfect brown eyes as that tear slipped until it hit the golden brown grass
they sat upon, together. She sat herself completely upright and took her mother's hand in her own. "I
love you mum." She whispered, unable to break eye contact.
"I love you too Olivia." Kyndrick whispered. Kyndrie's expression was one of complete and utter beauty.
It couldn't be described as happy nor sad nor angry. It was loving. It was the kind of look that said
goodbye and I'll always be here for you all at once. It was the kind of expression only those you valued
most in the world ever had to offer. Olivia didn't want her mother to erase that look ever again. She
leaned forward and was held close to Kyndrick. The two young woman embraced in a hug, a farewell.
Someday, it would be Olivia's time to go. Today was not that day. The sun was setting in real life and
Olivia had to rise again.
She stirred, unsure what was happening around her. She couldn't open her eyes, her body was thrashing
on the bathroom floor. The bathroom? Liv thought that might be where she was. What in God's name
was going on! Where was Kyndrick!
