history & personality;;
Peter was born to Nathaniel Broderick and Alyssa Pettigrew on February 27th, 1960. At which time, Nathaniel decided to abandon his newborn son and girlfriend of one year in favor of going to Australia and joining their Ministry. Alyssa did her best, raising Peter in a one-bedroom muggle flat over the restaurant she worked in. Nathaniel's family had been unwilling to help her, and her own parents had died while she was still in Hogwarts.
When he was old enough, Alyssa started sending Peter to muggle school because her mother had been a muggle, and she knew the importance of socializing with their sort at an early age. But Peter didn't do much socializing. He was quiet and shy. Bullies pushed him around constantly, and everyone avoided because they knew he was odd. He hated doing school work. Normally he was observant and loved to watch people, but when it came to learning he let his mind drift. Finally, he was expelled when he was eight for blowing up the locker of a bully. The explosive was never found, but Peter admitted to doing it. Alyssa didn't try to get him into another school, thinking it just as well he get out before his magic increased to dangerous levels.
For the next three year, Peter made some money working in the restaurant with his mother, washing dishes or sweeping up. He closed himself off even more at this time, only speaking to his mother and the occasional waitress. When he finally recieved his Hogwarts letter, he was excited to be getting away from the muggles that had treated him so badly and to finally learn magic. He wasn't sure how he was going to do with meeting people, even though his mother seemed confident he's come home for Christmas with loads of stories and pictures of his new friends.
After sitting six hours on the train with three girls who more interested in how well the Holyhead Harpies were playing than talking to him, Peter disappointedly joined the Gryffindor table, feeling that Hogwarts had already let him down. His mother had promised him, after all, that he would be put in Ravenclaw like her and his father. Things only got worse after the feast. He had been on his way to the common room with the rest of his year, when a couple of second-year Slytherins pulled him into the broom closet when no one was looking.
Before either of the bullies could cast a curse, the door opened and three boys his own age had their wands pointed in. Two started casting jelly-legs jinxes at the bullies while the third grabbed Peter's wrist tightly and pulled him out of the closet, then they slammed the door shut and ran all the way to the Gryffindor common room. James, Sirius and Remus were Peter's first friends, and they remain close as they enter their sixth year.
Peter is still shy and quiet, but around his friends he has become a little daring. Call it cowardice if you want, but he's not stupid enough to get himself into a duel without back-up. He idolizes James and Sirius with their good looks and natural talent. Even Remus, who's the smartest person he knows next to Dumbledore. In classes, Peter learns enough to get Acceptable, but doesn't like to try harder than that. He knows he could get better if he paid attention to the teachers instead of what James and Sirius are whispering about, but he just doesn't find it interesting. Still, he's good with charms and defensive spells, and just a bit of transfiguration.
Peter's also worried about the brewing war, and doesn't really want to fight, but if the other Marauders are doing it, then he will too.
odds & ends;;
Peter's wand is chestnut with dragon heartstrings and is 9.25 inches, and very brittle. It is also very good for defensive spells. He credits it for his decent grades in Defense Against the Dark Arts, although his best class is definitely Charms. If he could conjure a patronus, it would take the form of a mongoose, and the memory he would use would be shopping for his first year in Diagon Alley with his mother. It was his happiest and most hopeful memory because he knew he would be entering the wizarding world soon, where he belonged. His animagus form is a rat.
A boggart would take the shape of his tombstone. Peter's always had a very strong fear of his own death, despite never having a near-death experience. And in the mirror of Erised Peter would see himself and his fellow Marauders twenty years from now, each highly successful and still the best of friends, each with their own families. He doesn't own a broom because he's slightly afraid of heights. His only pet is a newt named Maurice that his mother bought for him on his tenth birthday. The age expectancy of a normal newt is three to four years, but Maurice's amazing age is due to the fact that he is a magical newt, able to change color much like a chameleon.
Currently Peter is in his sixth year at Hogwarts in Gryffindor house. He's not sure what he wants to do with his life yet, but knows he doesn't want anything to do with muggles. He wants to be powerful and for people to look up to him. He wants his father to feel sorry for walking out on him. And as for which side he supports in the war ... whichever side is winning.
