“Willis to Longbottom, Longbottom to Potter, Potter to Will – OH! That’s Willis to a waiting Hale, folks, thanks to a well timed bludger from Bagman! Does this bloke ever miss his cue?”
THE BATTLE FOR BAGMAN BEGINS
Daily Prophet Staff – 10 August 1976
ARGUABLY ONE OF THE BEST BEATERS HOGWARTS HAS SEEN IN YEARS, LUDOVIC BAGMAN TURNS SEVENTEEN THIS WEEK. ALTHOUGH HE STILL HAS ONE YEAR LEFT AT HOGWARTS, NATIONAL QUIDDITCH TEAMS ARE ALREADY WOOING AND COAXING THE YOUNG STAR, HOPING TO ADD HIM TO THE ROSTER A YEAR EARLY.
BAGMAN, A MEMBER OF THE HUFFLEPUFF QUIDDITCH TEAM, MIGHT BE CHARMING AND AFFABLE OFF THE PITCH, BUT GIVE HIM A BEATER BAT AND HE’S VIRTUALLY UNSTOPPABLE! THE SOON TO BE LEGAL WIZARD HAS EXPRESSED AMUSEMENT AND A BIT OF CONFUSION OVER ALL THE INTEREST.
“I know most people get signed after they’ve got some NEWTS, or at least after the autumn term. I didn’t think the offers would start coming in until January at least...”
WHILE MOST STUDENTS ARE GETTING THEIR TEXTBOOKS AND TRYING ON NEW SETS OF ROBES, BAGMAN IS SPENDING MOST OF HIS TIME GOING THROUGH THE VARIOUS OFFERS. HE CERTAINLY HAS HIS PICK OF THE LITTER. THE WIMBOURNE WASPS ARE DETERMINED TO SIGN HIM TO REPLACE DARRYL GOODWIN, WHO ANNOUNCED HIS RETIREMENT AFTER THE UPCOMING SEASON. THE MONTROSE MAGPIES AND FALMOUTH FALCONS SENT OUT THEIR OFFERS WEEKS AGO, WHILE PRIDE OF PORTREE IS EXPECTED TO MAKE AN OFFER WITHIN THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS.
“I can’t really say which team I’m going to pick... I’m still sorting through the offers. I’d love to play for the Arrows, being an Appleby boy and all that, but it depends I guess.”
THE QUIDDITCH WORLD IS CERTAINLY WAITING HIS DECISION WITH BATED BREATH.
"I really think the Arrows need to get on that," SAYS FAN AND BAGMAN NEIGHBOUR GARRY FRASER, "they haven't made an offer yet and they'll be stupid to let this opportunity pass."
IT’S SAFE TO SAY THAT WHICHEVER TEAM GETS BAGMAN WILL BE EXTREMELY LUCKY.
APPLEBY ARROWS FALL SHORT!
Appleby Magical Times Staff – 16 August 1976
FANS OF THE APPLEBY ARROWS AND RESIDENTS OF APPLEBY WERE LEFT FUMING AFTER THE DORSET TEAM BECAME ONE OF THE ONLY TEAMS IN THE BRITISH LEAGUE TO NOT MAKE AN OFFER TO QUIDDITCH PRODIGY AND HOME TOWN BOY, LUDOVIC BAGMAN.
“I’m outraged, absolutely outraged,” SAYS MINISTRY EMPLOYEE, HATTIE STINSTON, A FAN OF THE ARROWS AND LONGTIME APPLEBY RESIDENT, “they missed out on signing one of the best young beaters to come their ways in years. I really don’t care what excuse they give, I absolutely won’t be supporting them in the upcoming season! You stuffed up, Appleby Arrows!”
MANY RESIDENTS WROTE IN TO THE APPLEBY MAGICAL TIMES TO EXPRESS THEIR DISAPPOINTMENT, AND STAFF FOR THE ARROWS’S MANAGER, HAROLD CHILDS, HAS CONFIRMED THAT THE TEAM’S OFFICES HAVE BEEN BOMBARDED WITH HOWLERS.
“Listen, we really couldn’t afford to match those other teams,” PROTESTED CHILDS, SPEAKING TO STAFF BY A FIRESIDE INTERVIEW, “we’ve just signed Jaclyn Hardy, and it wasn’t cheap to buy out her contract with the Harpies. We’re hoping Bagman will come to us in a couple of years, but we had to let this opportunity go.
FANS ARE NOT CONVINCED, AND CITED RECENT QUOTES FROM BAGMAN WHERE HE STATED THAT HE WOULD BE WILLING TO PLAY FOR THE APPLEBY TEAM FOR LESS MONEY AND PLAY TIME.
“Who is this Jaclyn Hardy?” ASKED SAMUEL ROBERTS. “Sure she’s a good chaser, when she’s not suspended. She’s got rage issues. I really don’t think Childs has the team’s best interests at heart!”
DEBBIE WATKINS AGREED: “I’ve known the Bagmans for years! They’ve been in Appleby for generations now! I’m sure they were one of the first families to settle here, one of the only pureblood families to call this town home and they’ve always been good to the community. I certainly hope they don’t move because of this. I know I feel safer with an auror in the area, and Lucinda Bagman’s flying horse farm brings plenty of people here!”
WHILE WE WISH YOUNG LUDO A VERY HAPPY AND SUCCESSFUL CAREER, IT IS SAFE TO SAY THAT MANY APPLEBY RESIDENTS CAN NOT SAY THE SAME THING ABOUT THE APPLEBY ARROWS TODAY.
BAGMAN TO PLAY FOR WASPS
Daily Prophet Staff – 25 August 1976
ANYONE WHO FOLLOWS QUIDDITCH HAS BEEN PUMMELLED WITH NEWS ON LUDOVIC BAGMAN. THE SPECULATION AND VARIOUS QUESTIONS HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS, BUT NONE MORE IMPORTANT THAN WHICH TEAM BAGMAN WILL PLAY FOR.
THE YOUNG QUIDDITCH STAR MADE HIS ANNOUNCEMENT LATE LAST NIGHT. HE HAS CHOSEN TO PLAY FOR THE WIMBOURNE WASPS. BAGMAN AND WASP OFFICIALS HAVEN’T PUBLICALLY ANNOUNCED THE DETAILS ON THE CONTRACT, BUT INSIDERS TELL THE PROPHET IT IS LUCRATIVE.
“He’s rich, most definitely. There will also be some clauses regarding Hogwarts. Since he’s decided to go back, they’ll have specified that he needs to get at least a couple of NEWTS. Otherwise, there won’t have been any point,” SAYS A QUIDDITCH INSIDER WHO WISHED TO REMAIN ANONYMOUS. “They’ll be expecting him to put in lots of hours with his house team, and they may have even requested that he come train with the reserve team on weekends.”
OTHER QUIDDITCH COMMENTATORS EXPRESSED SURPRISE THAT BAGMAN WOULD BE RETURNING TO HOGWARTS: “It’s a big risk,” SPORTS WRITER DELILAH MCKENNA MUSED, “letting him go back to Hogwarts and play for Hufflepuff when they could be training him with the reserves until Goodwin’s retirement next year, but they must know what they’re doing.”
MANY FANS AND QUIDDITCH COMMENTATORS HAVE ALSO WONDERED WHETHER OR NOT BAGMAN WOULD DROP HIS CURRENT MANAGER, FATHER AND MINISTRY AUROR OTTO BAGMAN. THE PROPHET CAN EXCLUSIVELY TELL ITS READERS THAT BAGMAN INTENDS TO KEEP HIS FATHER AS MANAGER FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE.
AS FOR THE GOLDEN BOY HIMSELF? NOW THAT A DECISION HAS BEEN MADE, BAGMAN IS HOPING THE EXCITEMENT WILL DIE DOWN A BIT: “I’ve been so grateful for all the support, but I’ve got to get ready for Hogwarts now. It’s been an absolute trip, I never thought there would be such a fight to sign me... I can’t wait to get back to school and train with my Hufflepuff mates, and then, of course, I’m excited to start playing for the Wasps next summer.”
WITH HIS CHARMING NATURE AND QUIDDITCH PROWESS, WE SUSPECT BAGMAN IS GOING TO CONTINUE TO BE A BIG HIT BOTH ON AND OFF THE PITCH.
GOOD LUCK, LUDO!

My name is Lucy Davidson and I am Ludo Bagman’s number one fan. I’ve followed him and the Hufflepuff quidditch team ever since I started at Hogwarts three years ago! Sure, I might be a Ravenclaw and a third year, but I’ve got moles in Hufflepuff watching his every move and reporting to me. I even know whether or not he wears boxers or briefs!
No I can’t just tell you! That information and the proof cost me three galleons! I’m not just giving away that sort of thing! Plus, I still have to pay back my best friend, Annie. So, if you want to know, you have to pay.
That’s what I thought.
We’re soulmates you know. Our first names both start with “L”! His birthday is August 15th, and mine is October 15th. We have the same number! Don’t roll your eyes at me, Eliza Andrews, you pretend you’re above quidditch but I’ve seen you cheering for Ludo! I bet Gryffindor just loves that, huh! That’s what I thought. Tart.
Anyway, do you want to know Ludo’s patronus? Of course you do! It’s a hawk. They’re very graceful fliers you know, just like my Ludo! Plus, they’ll rip your throat out and eat you alive. JUST LIKE MY LUDO. You just ask Marlene McKinnon, Gryffindor and an absolutely awful beater next to Ludo. She tried to trail Hufflepuff’s seeker last match and he broke her beating arm.
She deserved it.
I read in a magazine that profiled Ludo that his best memory is the first time he flew! He was only six, and his father spent the whole day helping him balance his broom properly. He said he only manage to hover for a few seconds, but he knew he adored it. I bet that’s his patronus memory! I think he was being modest though, I bet he hovered all day!
I know absolutely everything about Ludo’s wand. I even got to see it up close once! I skipped Divination to spy on his Potions class, and before Slughorn caught me and sent me to Professor Flitwick for punishment, I saw him use it! At first I thought it was redwood, but then I asked a Hufflepuff just to make sure and she said it was actually oak. The core is dragon heartstring! I know that because I asked Ollivander about it. He also said it’s eleven inches long, and very springy.
I asked someone in Ludo’s year, and when they had to fight a boggart in third year, the boggart turned into a cat. I don’t believe that Ludo is scared of cats, and I think all the seventh years in my house are lying. Yep, definitely lying.
Obviously Ludo’s best memory would be marriage! To me, of course! Except he doesn’t know I exist yet, so until he does it’s probably him on England’s national team, winning the World Cup!
Ludo isn’t a purist at all, which is good because I’m a muggleborn and we’re soulmates so obviously he can’t be a purist. Besides, his cousins are halfbloods. His father’s an auror you know, which according to Annie, is basically a police officer. I don’t think he’s an Order member. But if he wasn’t going to be a big quidditch star, I’m sure he’d join! My Ludo might not be a Gryffindor, but he’s so brave! Besides, the Bagmans are friendly with everyone, even purists! They might support Dumbledore, but I think they’re more neutral. That’s only because they’re friends with everyone. The whole family is so great!
