Garrett Lewis is a man who wants to be everywhere at once. He longs to travel, but he misses his friends and family when he’s gone. He wants stability, a home, a career, but he can’t stand to be in one place long enough to build these things. It’s a rare moment when one finds Garrett entirely focused on the present. The past? What’s that? Garrett’s eyes are usually turned towards the future. His next year at school, his next summer with his parents, his next adventure. He’s got one foot in his next expedition before the current one’s even finished. Garrett is full of big plans, grand ideas, and tales of adventure.
Wanderlust is in his blood. Garrett’s own parents thirst for adventure, and can rarely be found on English soil. His mother is a curse breaker, his father a magizoologist. They met by chance while in Africa, and dated and then eventually entered a long term relationship for the duration of their assignments. Though they never married, and haven’t been romantically linked in years, they’re the best of friends and Garrett’s never had any complaints about their co-parenting. The couple spent a long time in Africa, long enough for Garrett to arrive, then his sister Hannah to come on the scene three years later. But, alas, all good things must come to an end. An agreement couldn’t be reached to keep the little family together, so they split up. Edward Lewis went to a unicorn reserve in Northern England and Alexandra Gatineau moved on to Greece and Rome. Garrett and Hannah were sent to live with their maternal grandparents in Braintree, Essex.
Though barely four years old, Garrett had already travelled much of the world, and would over the rest of his childhood travel much more. He loved living with his grandparents, but he also couldn’t wait to be whisked off by one of his parents for a week or two of grand adventure. As soon as his mother or father had an assignment in an area where they could take their children, they would show up unannounced on the doorstep of the little house in Braintree and carry Garrett and Hannah off to all sorts of interesting and different localities. Then, with similar notice, the children would find themselves back in Braintree. It was an odd childhood, characterized by much stability, yet none at all at the same time. Garrett loved it, though he was also keenly aware that he was unique in his upbringing. His grandparents also deeply disapproved of this lifestyle, believing that children needed stability and routine to be happy.
It was perhaps all the chaos in his life that caused Garrett to grow into such a friendly and charismatic individual. Mature for his age, a consequence of being treated like a little adult by his parents and grandparents, he’s always been worldly and a bit beyond the typical teenager drama. House rivalries and petty discrimination aren’t even on Garrett’s radar. He makes friends easily, and often, and they can be found all over the globe. But, all the upheaval in his life has also made Garrett a tad too independent. He’s not prone to discussing much about his life and decisions with others, he forgets every so often that there are many people in his life who worry when he’s AWOL for long periods of time.
One of the first friends Garrett ever made was a boy who lived next door to his grandparents. Christian. He is Garrett’s oldest friend, and their friendship has endured much over the past fifteen or so years. Many trips on Garrett’s part, a house division while at Hogwarts, more trips, etc. Eventually, their little duo expanded into a foursome during Garrett’s first year at Hogwarts. Garrett, a Gryffindor, was paired in potions with Elysia Moran, a Slytherin. They became fast friends in spite of their house differences, adding Sadie, Elysia’s best friend, to their group at the same time. He knew that these people were his home when Elysia’s mother died. Sadie and Christian rallied, and Garrett found himself extremely touched at their efforts and doing the same. He failed out of History of Magic because, somehow, writing Elysia funny little notes to make her smile seemed more important. Hovering outside the Slytherin common room with cookies seemed worth the potential duels. The loss brought everyone closer together, and honestly he can’t imagine life without his favourite people.
Garrett considers these people like his family, and loves them unconditionally. They are, in many ways, the most stable unit he’s ever been a part of. He lived with them at Hogwarts longer than his cumulative time with his grandparents or his parents. He owls Christian, Elysia, and Sadie more often than he owls his own mother. But, being part of their little unit does have its downsides. He’s been in love with Sadie for as long as he cares to remember, but has never acted on his feelings because he’s terrified of messing up their group. He’s dated others, but could never make it work with Sadie looming over his head. Perhaps one day he’ll harness that Gryffindor bravery and make a go at it.
As mentioned, Garrett can be quite introverted, he doesn’t really share a whole lot. He is terrible for doing his own thing. Like, for example, joining the Order of Phoenix. He hasn’t told anyone yet, but Garrett always tries to do the right thing, and joining this group and fighting against purists is definitely the right thing. He’s only very recently returned to England, having left immediately after sitting his NEWTS to travel across Australia, then he spent six months with his father in Tibet counting the local yeti population... It’s been a while. But, now he’s back, and though he’s been getting better at handing out some warnings regarding his whereabouts, Garrett’s decided to make this trip home a surprise. He’s been working as a bartender at the Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade, saving money for a trip to the Americas. Well, that's the plan anyway. Who knows how things will work out?

Garrett’s wand is eleven and a half inches, made from birch wood, and is quite good for casting defense charms. His core is a hair from the tail of a unicorn, which he thinks is the reason a baby unicorn once let him stroke her mane. Well, it also took a lot of effort on his part to prove he was trustworthy. Unicorns don’t really trust men, you know. This event was so special to Gar that it’s his special memory for when he casts a patronus. His patronus is not, as one might expect, a unicorn. It’s actually a bison, creatures known for migrating long distances. His dementor memory is the fighting his little group of friends did in their seventh year at Hogwarts. He can’t really recall why they were fighting, it was probably something stupid and not worth it, but tensions were high with all that NEWTS studying, and they ended up not speaking for weeks. Garrett was pretty terrified that he was going to end his Hogwarts career without his family at his back. It all worked out in the end, obviously, but dwelling on it brings back all those feelings of dread.
Garrett’s boggart is a fwooper, which didn’t fail to amuse students in his third year defense against the dark arts class. That is, until the professor told the rest of the class what one was. Yeah, that’s right Hattie Marsh, wiped that smirk right off your face, didn’t it? If you hear one, it makes you go insane. He considers it a pretty legitimate fear, even for a former Gryffindor. Sure, his friends joked around about it, but he always insists that if they had lived in Africa and heard the tales, they’d know better. His Mirror of Erised is a little less ridiculous. Garrett’s been crushing hard on Sadie for as long as he can remember, and what he sees is them together.
So, Garrett’s joined the Order of the Phoenix. He was approached by an old friend from school almost as soon as he got back on English soil. He said yes immediately, because he feels very strongly that purists are wrong and shouldn’t be targeting muggleborns, blood traitors, or anyone who strikes their fancy. He’s got a lot of morals, and a very strong sense of right and wrong. There’s no way he could refuse. Now he just needs to break it to his friends. Perhaps after a long night of serving them free drinks... He’s been working as a bartender at the Three Broomsticks since returning home.
