“I know you’ve seen a lot! Why aren’t you talking?” the frustrated voice of Gracie Davies echoed off the walls, for she wasn’t trying to be the least bit quiet. She was completely alone, as most of her contemporaries were in class right now, and those who weren’t had better things to do, like finish their homework or sleep in.
But not Miss. Grace Davies. She was taking the opportunity to interview the suits of armour lining the second floor corridors. Unfortunately, they weren’t being the least bit cooperative. Probably because they lacked tongues and brains and everything else one needed to talk. Sure, they moved, but only when someone charmed them. Try telling that to Gracie though...
“Fine! Play hardball and don’t tell me about the night time visits between portraits. I just won’t have anything to tell Rita at our next meeting!” Gracie pouted, but the suits of armour remained frozen and completely unaware of the Hufflepuff’s existence.
“I brought cookies! Don’t you want cookies? Cookies to anyone who talks!” Drat! Still not working. The person who lined the corridors with the armour had certainly known what he or she was doing. They were going to take the secrets of Hogwarts to their graves it seemed! And they wouldn’t even talk for the delicious cookies the houseelves had made! Gracie was impressed.
“Now what am I going to write about?” the young Hufflepuff sighed, defeated. She sat down, crossed legged, in the middle of the corridor and stared at the suits of armour. Maybe if she stared long enough they’d get uncomfortable and talk! “I really wanted to talk about all the portrait relationships! Everyone says the Fat Lady visits her friends, but what about the others? Does anyone ever go on vacation to that lovely beach scene on the fifth floor? Or, get married in the church in the North Tower? The portraits won’t talk to me anymore. That’s why I need your help!”
Still no answer. Well, Gracie wasn’t leaving without one! She’d sit in the corridor all day if she had to.
