You're out on the wind and I'm still waiting to be found. Jilted lovers and broken hearts
Kavic Elliot leaned against the fence line, hands in his pockets and looked at the sky. It was a purple color and the stars and moon had just barely come out. There was enough summer left that the night wasn’t cold, but it was distinctly chiller then it had been in recent weeks. The chill in the air and the leaves changing their color from green to red to gold was familiar to children worldwide- it was the color that meant that summer was dying, giving way to autumn and school once again starting up. For Kavic himself, it meant starting the slow process of scouring his room and house so he could pack, checking shelves and tables for forgotten books and parchment. His thoughts were, that if he started the packing process early, say a week before he needed to be in London, he’d give himself time enough that it wouldn’t be rushed and stressful. If he ever stuck to his plan that is, most years he always ended up doing the same thing… the night before, running about with quills in one hand, arms loaded with clothes looking for his books and homework. Of course, he didn’t need to be thinking about that now… now he was supposed to be at a party. Parties were fun right? Was a reception even a party? If a party counted as endless chatter, bad music, awkward dancing… then yes. This was a party indeed. At least he knew this happily wedded couple. Some of the other receptions he had attended had been for members of the community he perhaps knew by face or even by name, but he wouldn’t have qualified himself as close enough friend or family to be at the reception. The only reason the invite had been extended was because his father had been the pastor involved and (more often than not) his mother was heavily involved in some aspect whether it was catering or lending a hand or serving. But this one was different, he’d known Annie Ellis (now Cox) since he was a child- she’d babysat him and his sister once upon a time, and once he was old enough to ‘take care of himself’, they had remained in contact with her though the connection had faded in recent years. He wasn’t quite as familiar with young Dr. Cox, but he was sure that the young man who’d made his friend light up the way she had throughout the night couldn’t be bad (and if he was, Kavic was turning seventeen in a few months time. No more trace…) And the reception wasn’t as awful as it could be… the newlyweds were only a few years older than Kavic himself and he was pleased to discover their tastes mostly coincided with his own when it came to music. And he’d avoided the dancing for a bit by talking to his mother. Usually talking to his mother ended up with him getting assigned tasks to do, and she did not disappoint him- he washed dishes, poured drinks (though under his father’s eye so he didn’t drink any… there), and took away plates. But it couldn’t be avoided for long; he had danced a few times that night. After all, the host was supposed to figuratively dance with his guests, right? Because there was a dilemma. He had invited a friend of his, a certain redhead named Lily Evans. And… apparently one invitation to a friend had extended (somehow, he still wasn’t clear on the story) to five invitations. And he hadn’t found out until they had all shown up about forty five minutes ago. (Which coincidentally is about when he started pouring drinks to get away from his mother. She was not happy.) He wasn’t sure what to do. As far as he knew, the infamous marauders had not caused trouble but… well; his mental plan of the evening had not included asking Lily for a dance while her unofficially official boyfriend leered at him. With a sigh, Kavic thumped his head against the tall fencepost. Maybe if he beat it long enough it might jog an idea into his head. “Watch out, if you bruise that hard head, mum may kill you.” Kavic smiled and looked over his shoulder at his sister who had made her way from the party to stand a few feet away. She was looking almost longingly into the field, he knew that she would rather be riding… but that was a general answer to most problems. Stressed about family? Ride Strider. Stressed about homework? Ride Strider. Irritated at politics? Ride Strider. “Is she looking for me?” Koran looked over at him. “Mother? Or Lily? They’ve both asked me where the hell you disappeared off too.” Kavic winced but she wasn’t done yet. “You owe me by the way; I’ve been keeping them entertained since you so bravely dashed off behind the bar and into the kitchen. Entertained meaning answering Sirius’s and James increasingly inane questions about muggles. It’s okay,” she added, correctly interrupting the pained look on his face, “They’ve been pretty quiet when anyone comes into hearing range and Lily’s been helping when they get stupid. They aren’t my guests though.” She was frowning at him now. “I’ve been around.” “Yeah, a few times but not for long and then you get mysteriously ‘busy’ and vanish. Come on Frog. This is stupid. Don’t glare at me like that! It is.” For several moments they glared at other before Kavic sighed and looked away. “Fine, I was being a dumbass. I’ll go back in now.” She smiled serenely and followed him back to the dancefloor. “Good.” “You’re going to follow me there, aren’t you?” “Duh.” They made their way across the lawn and despite his reservations about weddings, Kavic had to admit that it was a pretty affair. They had gotten wood paneled flooring as a dancefloor that was edged with the buffet table and scattered round tables with candles and lanterns above the area. Their families own rose bushes had been incorporated into the decorations as well. Koran avoided most of the crowd, seizing her brother by the wrist as if she was afraid he’d disappear on her. “Found him!” she said cheerfully once she found the table. “Mum had him working in the kitchen. I’ll take his place then, cheerio!” And she was gone again clearly happy to be out of the limelight though Kavic suspected that she’d be back before too long.

Lily Evans had always been fond of weddings. They hit some kind of emotional trigger in her that made her slightly mushy and cheery. She loved to dance and visit with people and meet new people that she’d never have a chance to meet otherwise. So, when Kavic Elliot had invited Lily to come along to this particular wedding, Lily had quickly agreed. She knew they were going as friends and she was already envisioning herself in a lovely dress sipping sneaky tidbits of champagne and twirling about with Kav or Kora. Lily had always been fond of the Elliots. They were her friends.
The problem had come about when Lily spent the day with her sort of boyfriend, James Potter. Since their relationship had begun, he’d been slightly territorial of her. Or, perhaps it was just because James and Kavic seemed to have a habit of butting heads about things. It didn’t matter the reason, the fact was that James wasn’t exactly ecstatic to hear that Lily was going to be Kavic’s date to a wedding. They’d had a row about it and James had insisted he and Sirius show up. Lily was practically fuming over that! She said that they couldn’t come unless they brought Remus because only Remus could seem to keep them both in check so that chaos wouldn’t actually break out amongst the masses. James grinned and agreed and, after talking to both Remus and Sirius, Peter was soon begging to come along as well.
So, there she was at this beautiful reception wearing a lovely dress in a shade of light pink and a pair of tan dancing shoes. Her fiery red hair was braided down her back in a delicate style her mother had arranged. She wore a plain black cardigan sweater over hr dress as the night grew a little more chilly. The only thing dulling this party now was the lot of her friends sitting at the round table in the thick of a full swing reception.
Lily’s eyes had remained locked on the happy couple that was dancing about the floor for a while. She’d been trying to ignore James and Sirius and their stupid jokes since Koran had wandered off moments earlier. It was hard to ignore the awkward tones of Peter’s voice as he tried to pretend he could keep up with James and Sirius. Only Remus seemed to actually understand social etiquette and, for that, Lily was thankful for his presence. She wished Koran would hurry back because she disliked being the only girl amongst a large group of boys. Lily was used to this, but not at an event. She secretly wished James would ask her to dance but knew he wouldn’t. And it was far too early in their relationship for her to ask him or guilt him into dancing. So, she sat there looking slightly annoyed and sipped at a glass of champagne. She wasn’t a big drinker or anything, but weddings were special occasions. She was just imagining a good escape when Koran reappeared with Kav in her clutches and a smile made its way onto Lily’s face.
”Look who’s back.” Lily murmured with a grin. ”Perhaps you can get this lot into shape.” Lily suggested and looked to Remus for support. He was one of her few allies most of the time.

James always thought wedding were alright. Well, not exactly the ceremonies but the receptions for sure. He loved social occasions, and weddings were no exception. The chaos of millions of conversations, the fights that couples were trying to have in secret and ailing, looking at the various absurd clothing people decided to put on themselves, it all was a thrill to him.
Though when he was told about Lily getting invited by Kavic, James wasn't exactly thrilled. Maybe lily couldn't see it, but James knew about Kavic's little crush on lily and he didn't like the idea of him trying to sneak in between him and her with this little event. So he... suggested that he and Sirius should come along. Of course Lily was anything but thrilled by this, Finally she agreed, but only if Remus came along, to as she put it, "keep Sirius and I in line." Of course once Remus was mentioned in the plan Peter came jumping up begging to tag along.
That's how it came to where James is now, sitting at a table with his crew, and Lily. Kavic didn't seem to interested in sticking around much once he had seen the entourage Ms. Evans had brought with her. James could help but let a small grin cross his face. So the topic has ended up to Sirius and James discussing a ridiculous outfit some aunt from the brides side decided to premiere at this reception. Sirius has stuck to the idea that this woman had made it her personal goal to turn more heads today than the bride, and from counting the looks she has gotten so far so far I'm fairly certain she is making quite a competition of it.
James looked down at what he himself was dressed in, this was one more compromise that Lily had gotten James to agree with. He wore simple black slacks with a white button up and a black coat finished off with a red tie. He fidgeted with the collar for the hundredth, he had to admit that he liked the suit but the collar was murder. Then an amazing revelation crossed his mind, as he pulled the collar he unbuttoned the top button, hiding his deeds behind the tie, it was instant relief and James sagged back. Just in time to see Kavic getting shuffled over by his sister.
As his presence was announced a wicked thought crossed James mind. He looked at Lily, feeling a little sorry for involving her in this, but it was too big an opportunity to pass up. As Kavic stood shifting from one foot to another James, "Mr. Elliot, seeing as you are the host to miss Evans isn't customary that you should ask her to dance?"

remus didn’t particularly enjoy dressing up (what sixteen year old boy did??) and now he was stuck here pretending to be interested when really, he was just bored with a mild case of amusement. he had no idea who the bride and groom were to be frank, and he had a good feeling that him and the rest of the marauders weren’t exactly wanted at this wedding. sure, they had an invite, but it was more of a second-hand invite in remus’ eyes. kavic was invited so he’d invited lily who’d invited james who’d invited sirius but then obviously if sirius went then peter too, and if peter was going obviously remus needed to go, mostly just to complete the group of four that they forever would be. he didn’t really mind telling them he’d come. it was in the end, something to do. lily had sort of bugged him to make sure he joined them as well. he supposed she didn’t want to be left here with just sirius and james for company. though he suspected she didn’t mind them as much as she sometimes made everyone else believe. heck, after all these years she was finally giving james the time of day! remus was only here for support, and probably to keep an eye out on sirius.
he saw koran and kavic’s return and smiled in their direction. ”hullo” he greeted pleasantly. it was clear that while koran was cheerful, kavic was not. but she had barely arrived when she’d run off again, leaving them with a grumpy (and to be honest, awkward) looking kavic. remus managed to throw back an equally quick ”goodbye” as koran disappeared. bummer, koran was good company. he made a mental note to find her if things got too boring where he was. meanwhile, lily was throwing him a grin, which remus returned carelessly. ”speak for yourself, i’m in fine shape thanks!” he replied. he wondered why kavic appeared to be so agitated, and why he’d been hiding out in the kitchens if he’d been the one to invite them (well, invite lily) here in the first place. he looked over at james curiously when he made his suggestion. it wasn’t like james to pass lily around like that, but remus could bet james had some sort of idea up his sleeve. he let it pass, impartial to whatever it was, taking a sip of his champagne –which for the record, didn’t taste that great because he didn’t particularly like champagne. but hey, it passed the time. perhaps he ought to have brought a book or something. remus half looked to peter and sirius, almost waiting for them to say something funny.
